Webinar announcement for the 2026 IEEE Computer Society Malaysia Chapter Webinar Series and Professional Workshops.
The IEEE Computer Society Malaysia Chapter and the Centre of Research for Cyber Security & Network (CSNET), Universiti Malaya are jointly organising a webinar titled "Building Agentic Workflows with Hermes Agent" on Friday, 4 September 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (MYT).
From Chatbots to Agentic Systems
As Artificial Intelligence evolves beyond conventional chatbots, agentic systems have emerged as the next step in practical automation. Rather than simply generating text, AI agents can understand goals, plan steps, and call external tools to do real work.
A Focused Introduction to Agentic Workflows
This focused one-hour introductory workshop introduces the core fundamentals of agentic workflows using the Hermes Agent ecosystem. Designed for professionals, researchers, and students, the session breaks down how reasoning models work, how agents make decisions, and how to connect simple tools to automate everyday tasks.
Through straightforward explanations and foundational walkthroughs, participants will gain an intuitive understanding of the building blocks behind AI agents — from basic function calling to simple workflow execution — providing a clear starting point for building their own intelligent agents.
Speaker
Ts. Dr. Mohamad Hazim Bin Md Hanif is the Director of the Data Intensive Computing Centre (DICC), Universiti Malaya.
Moderator
The session will be moderated by Prof. Ts. Dr Nor Badrul Anuar Bin Jumaat, Director of the Centre of Research for Cyber Security and Network (CSNET), Universiti Malaya.
Key Learning Objectives
- Understand agentic fundamentals: Grasp the core differences between traditional prompting and agentic systems, and explore what makes Hermes Agent well-suited for autonomous tasks.
- Learn the basics of tool calling: Understand how AI models interact with external functions, APIs, and basic tools to retrieve information and perform actions.
- Structure a simple agent workflow: Learn the step-by-step process of defining an agent's objective, setting clear boundaries, and executing a basic multi-step task.
- Follow essential design practices: Discover beginner-friendly techniques for managing agent prompts, handling basic outputs, and ensuring predictable behaviour.
- Get started with experimentation: Identify practical, low-barrier tools and starter approaches to begin experimenting with Hermes Agent in research and daily tasks safely.
